Thank you Geoff, Celia & the boys. A wonderful job. You really have captured the spirit of the Sanctuary and your adventures as a family. We are so privileged to have met you. Maria & Denis A. We look forward to hearing more of your wonderful adventures. By the way, we think that the bower bird has managed to get a black plastic peg (camper) or perhaps a black nikko pen. They do like to steal colourful, unusual items for their nests. I have known them to steal bits of coloured chalk from the backyard of farmhouses.

      Hello Maria and Denis –
Still hard to believe we bumped into each other in Cunnamulla a couple weeks back after last seeing you in Port Lincoln SA almost 4 months earlier – whats the odds!? We’re pleased we did though and glad you enjoyed our Bowra moments – a special place if you are into the outdoors and of course, birds. Next week I will let everyone know what the Bower Bird has under his right foot, but it is not a peg or pen 🙂 Travel safe and speak soon. The Hunters (currently in the Pilliga)

      Hi Lou,

Indeed it is …a used casing of a 303. What a stylish boy he is! I wonder what the girls think of it, perhaps not much as I did not see any around his bower. G

gidday Hunters, looks like you made it there just at the right time after some rain. I think the bower bird has a rifle shell, just what any romantic lady bowerbird would love.

My husband John and I should be out at Bowra in a few days. We are going with a group from the Mapleton Men’s Shed – doing maintenance. I’m hoping to get a few good photographs, so have really enjoyed your write up. Some time has passed since you were there but I can’t imagine it is going to be much different.

Hi Jen – thanks for your comment. We’re living on the Sunshine Coast ourselves.

I was informed by another Bowra visitor recently, that the natural hot spring behind the old Bowra homestead which drained all the way down to the airstrip had been capped and the drain filled in. I dont know for sure this has occurred but it would be a shame if it has as many species of birds fed and drank along the path of that drain. Apart from that, the rest of the property should have remained the same from when we’re there last. Nonetheless, I hope you & your husband have a great trip and see some lovely birds – it’s a beautiful place. Geoff
